TWM confirmsthe death in his military record: killed at Jacksonport, Ala., Dec 26, 1863. Details are not clear, as the 126th was apparently not engaged in any action at this time.

It is likely that we was wounded in the Battle of Jackson (Mississippi) which was fought on May 14; this battle, in which the 41st suffered heavy losses, was the last engagement in which his regiment participated prior to his death.
