Details of his desertion are not clear. In Sep/Oct 1865, he was listed as having deserted on 9/15. However, at the end of Oct, it states 'Recvd furlough for 30 days and has not returned to his com'd but obtained a Surgeons certificate for extra 30 days'. The muster-out roll repeats the description of desertion. He did not apply for a pension, so there is no surviving correspondence describing the circumstances.

This may indicate that he may have served the Confederacy, but this has not yet been determined. Born KY, about 1826, and was still living there in 1870. By 1880, he had moved to Fayette Co. IL, was living in Marrowbone Twp. In 1910.
