OSY gives a death date of 2 Apr 1897, but this seems to correspond to the death of a nephew of the same name. 1865_07_15 Smyser OSY gives date as 2 Apr 1897, which may be the death date of a nephew. 1865 is given in MCHGS cemetery reading. The elapsed time between his death in July, and his military status five months later ('absent, sick') may be due to poor record keeping or an error in the death date.
