ADAMS
I am seeking information about Edward S Adams: History of Shelby and Moultrie Counties:
E. S. ADAMS is a Kentuckian by birth. He was born in Oldham county, Kentucky, on the 17th of
February, 1834. His ancestors came from North Carolina, and were among the early sett lers of
Kentucky. His grandfather, Ephraim Adams, was born in North Carolina, was married in that state.
Joel Adams, father of th e subject of this sketch, was born in Kentucky in the year 1797. Edward S.
Adams was the seventh of a family of nine children. He first came to Illinois in the year 1852, when
nineteen years old, and remained for a time in Sullivan township, Moultrie county, but in the fall
of 1853 returned to Kentucky. In the spring of 1855 he came back to this state. He was married on the
23d of September, 1858, to Matilda Ann Roney, daughter of John Roney, one of the old settlers at Todd's
Point. Since 1859 Mr. Adams has been living on his present farm, which consists of 267 acres. He has
five children, John, Alice, Jenettie, William and Edward.
I, too, descend from Joel Adams and would like to increase my knowledge of this family.

years. Apparently moved much in area of Matoon, Shelbyville, Tuscola,
etc, judging by where children were born or died. 1867-1874 with L.P.
Phillips minister of Sullivan Christian Church. Died 2/23/1884 and
"was brought home to Sullivan for burial," so apparently died
elsewhere. Surviving children Jeannie (Jenny) b 1854, m. Mr. Sees;

BERRY
Hi everyone!
I am having a bit of trouble and am stuck in Moultrie County. Any help would be appreciated involving the following people or their families.
William Berry b.15 May 1848 in Illinois d.21 Nov 1930 in Moultrie, IL married Florance Matilda Berry on 27 October 1898. His parents were Samuel Berry and Elizabeth (Waller-- maiden name I am unsure of).
Samuel, William, and Elizabeth all lived in Moultrie County according to census records when they died and before. I have no idea who William's siblings were, nor Samuel or Elizabeth's parents. Any information furthering this line would be most appreciated.
Florance Matilda Berry was born 6 Oct 1881 in Jonathan Creek Township, Moultrie and died 13 Aug 1904 in Jonathan Creek Township, Moultrie - less than a month after having her one and only child (my great grandmother) Freda Fern Berry. She was married to William Evan Berry at the time.
Florance's siblings include Mary Johnson (b. 1866), John F. Bud Johnson (b. 20 June 1868), Bessie Johnson (b. 1874), Maude Johnson (b. Oct 1881), William H.H. Johnson (b. 1889), Alzora A. Johnson (b. 16 Nov 1871), and Rose Johnson (b. 16 April 1885).
Florance's parents were Asa Johnson (b. Sep 1827 in Pennsylvania and d. 14 Apr 1927 in Jonathan Creek Township, Moultrie) and Cassandra Ann Buxton (b. June 1844 in Pennsylvania and d. 31 July 1898 in Jonathan Creek Township, Moultrie).
Any information on this line of Berry's would be most appreciated as well. Any pictures, stories, dates, siblings, children, or anything else related to these people would help me out immensely. Please feel free to contact me regarding these people because I am completely stuck and would love help.
Thanks!!

BRAGG
Seeking information concerning the family of my great great
grandparents Hugh Lewis and Frances (SUTHERLAND) BRAGG who married in
1814, Fluvanna County, Virginia. They had quite a large family. By
1840, they had migrated to Ross County, OH and the census shows a total
of 12 living in their household. By the time they appear on the 1850
census of Moultrie Co., IL, there are only 5 children then living in
their household, plus Sarah SUTHERLAND, an aged blind female who is
thought to be Mrs. BRAGG's mother. I am seeking the date and place of
death for Hugh Lewis & Frances BRAGG (still living in 1860), and
Sarah SUTHERLAND. I am unable to locate the death record of burial
site for either of them in Moultrie County, IL. This family might
possibly have gone to Missouri sometime after 1860. I am also unable
to find any information concerning the two youngest sons of Hugh Lewis
& Frances BRAGG. Does anyone know what ever happened to Thomas, b.
ca. 1839, OH, and Henry, b. ca. 1840, OH?

BURG
I'm looking for information about the Burg family, particularly around 1860. Thanks!
Betty Waite Myers
BURNS
I am looking for my 2nd Great Grandfather's parents. His name was
Alford H. Burns b. September of 1850 in Indiana. I cannot prove this
Indiana yet, although it is recorded. I first pick him up in Moultrie
county in the 1870 Census working as a hired-hand for a farmer named
Wilburn. He then marries Ellen Christine Wheeler and they and family
are on 1880 Census of Sullivan Township Moultrie Co., IL At that time
his mother Martha is shown living with him and Ellen, but no father is
present. By the 1900 Census of Shelby County, Ridge Township put him
at 49 and Ellen at 42 which would be correct. Some of the kids are
listed. By 1910 they have moved to Grady county Chickasha township
OKlahoma, where he died (I have certificate of death) in 1934)
I have searched Oklahoma and I cannot find anything that would give
me his father's name. The Census of Moutrie and Shelby say his parents
were from NC. My problem is this I cannot pick him up on the 1850
Census of Indiana, because he was not born until Sept, and the Census
was taken in June, so he was not born yet.
I have failed to find anything on his mother who is listed as Martha
Burns age 67 on the 1880 Census of Sullivan Township, Moultrie Co
(taken on 15th day of June. I asked someone down there a couple of
years ago if they could find a notice of death, but they said no. I
suspect she was a widow, but I don't know that. Also on that 1880
Census it says she was born in Indiana, and that her parents were born
in Indiana. So I don't know what to think. I can't find anything that
fits in North Carolina until I have a first name, because Alford was
not born yet. Can you help me find any info on Alford which might
reveal his father's name and birthplace, and also his mother's, since
she lived with them. She had to be born in 1813 if she was 67 in 1880.
She must have been buried there, because she was not with them in 1910
in Oklahoma. So she must have died between 1880 and 1910. Maybe she
is listed at one of the cemeteries there. I don't know. Can anyone
help me?

BURRIS/BURROUS
I am looking for information on a Sarah Burris/Burrous who was in Moultrie county
in 1880. She was 15 years old and left to live with relatives. I did find her in
1880 census living as a domestic servant in the home of a W.R. Rouse(?).
My notes state: " The last time Elias Edward Burris saw his sister Sarah she was
standing in the middle of the road crying. This would have been sometime between
1870 and 1880. He later found out she had been left in Illinois as a domestic servant.
She did later visit with a half sister as there was a newspaper article about sisters
meeting for the first time."
The newspaper article headlines as "Half-Sisters meet for the First Time".
Mrs. Adam Everspaugh from Zaneville. Ohio visited Sadie Shelton over the week end.
Mrs. Shelton's mother died when she was very small and she was left to live with
relatives when her father went back to Ohio where he remarried.
Sarah seems to disappear, however I feel sure that Sarah and Sadie are the same.
However who were the relatives she was left with? And what happened with her?
If you have any info I am interested. I am looking for the line descending from
John L. Burris/Burrous born 1837 in Hocking County, Ohio He had 21 children from two marriages.
