• Military: 11 Aug 1862, The Civil War.. 8 Thomas B. joined Company E of the 12th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Morgan Co., IN., on September 2, 1862. He participated in battles at Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Missionary Ridge, Kenesaw Mountain, and the Siege of Atlanta as well as a number of minor engagements. At one point he was taken prisoner and later released in a prisoner exchange. He was discharged in June of 1865 as a corporal in Washington, DC. For a portion of his enlistment he served with his brother-in-law, Benjamin Donovan.
