TAGGART

Looking for more information on David James Taggart who lived in the Authur area following the civil war. He was sent to Moultrie County from New York City to live with a, to date, an unknown relative as a child (age 10-15). At 16 or 17 he enlisted in the war (Mattoon). He was a part of Co H 123 INF. I have everything I really need following his enlisting in the war. He married a Margaret Farmer of Moultrie County and eventually moved to Nebraska in the early 1880s. He was born March 3, 1845, Married Margaret on the John Martin (Uncle) farm in Moultrie Co. (April 22, 1875) and died in Doniphan, Nebraska (Aug. 29, 1896). They had 3 children born to them in Moultrie Co. Edgar Jan 8.1876, Otis May 3, 1878, and Nellie June 6, 1881.
My big dilemma is where did he come from (NY City, the story is he sold newspapers on the street as a youngster)? Who were his parents (no clue) they were possible immigrants from Northern Ireland as David James always said he was a Scots Irish? Who were the relatives he stayed with in Moultrie Co. (maybe an Aunt Sara)?

TAYLOR

I am looking for information about Amos Elmer Taylor born April 1866, probably in Moultrie County, and his wife, Cora Ann Johnson born 1875 in Moultrie County. She died May 27, 1917 in Jackson County, Indiana. They were married December 21, 1891 in Sullivan. My mother-in-law Thelma McMahon Thompson, grand-daughter of this couple, once wrote that she was born in Gas City, but we had always heard Sullivan. My question is, when and where was Amos Elmer Taylor born, and when and where did he die. It was some time after 1951. The second part of my query is about Amos's daughters : Monte Grace and Monta "Babe" Taylor. Monte Grace we believe was born before the 1900 census and Monta "Babe" after the census. What happened to them? Where and when were they born, married, died, buried? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Amos's parents were Charles H. Taylor and Mary A. Johnson (or Cunningham). Charles was born in New York about 1833 and died after 1910. She was born about 1830 and died after 1870. I would like to learn more about them. Cora Ann's parents were Henry Burl Johnson 1830-1907 and Katherine Ann Myers 1836-1878. They are supposedly buried in Johathan Creek Cemetery. Any help on them would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You, Bonita Thompson
Jackson County, Indiana.

TREADWAY

I am researching the surname Treadway. I have documents that state that Samuel Jennings Treadway was born in Allenville, ILL. 3/3/1897. I am the gr-grandaughter of Samuel Jennings Treadway. According to my grandmother he was born in Allenville, IL 3/3/1897. At the time of his death in Nov. of 1971 he still had 4 brothers living.
Oscar, born 1/30/1898, died Aug 1968 in Columbus, Ohio.
Alonzo was born: 4/9/1902 and died: Aug 1975 in Fort Worth, TX.
Joseph was born: 3/29/1906 and died April 1978 in Springfield, Mass.
And John of Danville,ILL. In 1917 Samuel married Edna Mary Moon and they had 6 children. The interesting thing is that none of his children know anything of his past. What they do know is that at some point when he was young he was given to an Aunt that lived in Marion County, Ohio and raised. I haven't been able to get any information about him really other than what is listed in his obit. If anyone out there can help. please contact me. From maps that I have found of that area it look like they may have been located in Sullivan or East Nelson twp. I am desperate to find anything on him. There are no family stories about his childhood...he never talked about it. If you can help me locate him in the area I'd appreciate it. I was thinking the 1900 census, maybe a marriage license, death notice something to that affect. I'd be happy with anything...especially the names of his parents.
